ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS

Politics is said to be a game with one basic rule: no permanent foes or friends, only permanent interests. No where is this rule best observed than around Nigeria's political corridors. Our style of politics is one that has exposed our politicians as exact as whom they are- self serving, and money hungry game players. Consequently, we have witnessed repeated cases of cross-carpeting from one party to another so long as it serves the selfish desires of the decampers. We have witnessed seemingly sworn enemies embrace one other in public glare to the chagrin of observers. What their actions and inactions sum up to is the obvious fact that our political players are hardly driven by strong personal and corporate political ideologies or philosophies but the desire to exploit the people's common wealth.
Recent developments at the 8th senate suggests a build-up to a situation that would witness the realignment of political loyalty and an unbalancing of the political equilibrium in favor of the party in opposition. Should this happen, it would be easy to determine whom the biggest loser(s) and winner(s) would be.
The Nigerian national assembly has come a long way in the fight for total independence from the power brokers and their allies in the executive arm of government. This struggle dates back to the days of Olusegun Obasanjo who by his ingenuity at cutting corners for selfish aims, turned the hallowed chambers to a place akin to the casinos in Las Vegas.
The 8th assembly (senate) under Saraki's leadership has not been spared this encroachment of her boundaries by the powers that be but unlike previous tussles, the office of the president of the senate is at the epicenter of recent attacks. Recall the initial saga on the manipulation of senate rules to  ensure the ascension of Ekweremadu and Saraki which has since evaporated like morning dew. The new wave of attacks is been midwived by the Code of Conduct Bureau, an agency of the executive arm of government.
For the records, the man Saraki has been in public service for well over a decade but only recently has the CCB uncovered the fact that his declaration of assets has been false.
As the fight against Saraki rages, indications are emerging of impending decamp to his erstwhile political homeland, the PDP. Checks on his Twitter handle shows that the 'member of APC' phrase has since been erased. Could this bear more meaning than meets the eyes? Only time can tell.
The APC is about to make one of its worst calculations in this power algorithm.
Imagine a legislature effectively in the grasp of the opposing party. We can only watch and see as events unfold in the coming weeks.
